Days under the sun

In January 2024, after three months of closely observing global conflict through repeated visits to UN Security Council sessions, I felt compelled to give form to the emotional toll of witnessing war from afar. Days Under the Sun is a visual protest against the ongoing cycles of violence—an attempt to confront, rather than retreat from, the reality of conflict. Though distinct from previous work, the series reflects a moral urgency to engage through art.

This anti-war project seeks to translate abstract geopolitical suffering into a visceral, human register. It reflects the perspective of an artist removed from the battlefield but deeply affected by its consequences, grappling with powerlessness and the urgency of peace. The resulting imagery is intentionally confrontational yet meditative, operating in a space where empathy becomes both a method and an outcome.

While Days Under the Sun diverges in theme from earlier explorations, it remains consistent in its use of light, color, and symbolic abstraction to explore interior states. The series is ultimately a call for awareness and reconciliation, rooted in the belief that visual art can serve as both witness and resistance in times of crisis.

Portions of series exhibited at Abstract Mind, Cica Museum, Seoul, Korea 2025. Prints of the series can be purchased here.
